Freshmen - there will be a float committee meeting Monday, September 23, in Mrs. Thom’s room.  Grab your lunch and bring it down.  We are still in need of a trailer for the float, a truck to pull it, and a vehicle for the representatives.  Please check on these items and bring names and phone numbers to the meeting.  We will also begin planning our float design.

 

Sophomores – anyone interested in planning our float for homecoming is welcome to attend a meeting in

Mrs. Clous’ room Tuesday, September 24 during lunch. 

 

Juniors - it is your turn to vote for homecoming court. Please visit Mr. Thom’s room during lunch today to choose the 1 boy and 1 girl you would like to represent you for class this year. Again, you must vote during lunch today.

 

Baker College is offering driver education classes. Drive a Mustang, Firebird or Camaro for your driver training experience. Registration forms are outside the office or see Mr. Yeomans during lunch to sign up.  Classes start Tuesday, October 8.

 

School pictures will be taken today.  Students will be dismissed in small groups throughout the morning.  Afternoon CTC students make sure you have your picture taken before you get on the bus.

 

SOPHOMORES – Jostens will be here Tuesday, September 24 during 2nd hour to meet with you about class rings.  Report to class for attendance and then go directly to the auditorium.

 

Mobile dentist will be here Thursday and Friday, October 24 and 25.  Forms will be at the office Monday. 

The forms must be returned by Friday, October 11.

 

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

 

Students - please be sure to check out what is posted on the bulletin board in the lobby and along the library hallway.  There is a lot of important information, including college and scholarship opportunities.

 

Have you taken part in community service activities or volunteered over the past year?  If so, you could be eligible for a 2014 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.  Fill out an online application at http://spirit.prudential.com or www.nassp.org/spirit.  Once the form is completed it needs to be submitted to Mrs. Richardson by November 5, 2013. 

 

There is a job needing 3-4 people to help take out a dock on Crooked Lake for pay.  Times are flexible. 

See Mrs. Richardson if you are interested!

 

The PSAT, Preliminary SAT, and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test will be offered at our school on the morning of Wednesday, October 16 in the auditorium.  This is good practice for sophomores and juniors. 

If taken as a junior, it could qualify you for a National Merit Scholarship.  The cost is $15 to be paid by the day of the test to Ms. Gilson.  Make checks payable to LCHS.  Sign up in the office or see Mrs. Richardson if you have any questions.

 

ATHLETICS

 

Athletes will be selling Bear Claw Bags through Friday, September 27.  Athletes - all order forms and money must be turned in to Ms. Gilson by September 27.  See Ms. Gilson if you have questions.  This is an athletic booster fundraiser and all money raised benefits the LCAS athletic programs.

 

Varsity football @ Marion, bus departs at 5:15 p.m., game starts at 7:00 p.m.

 

Saturday – Varsity volleyball @ Big Rapids Crossroads Academy, invite starts at 9:00 a.m.

Baker College is offering driver education classes. Drive a Mustang, Firebird or Camaro for your driver training experience. Registration forms are outside the office or see Mr. Yeomans during lunch to sign up.  Classes start Tuesday, October 8.

 

Math tutoring is scheduled for today in Mr. Bongard’s room.

ALL STUDENTS – class meetings are scheduled for today during 5th hour (12:35-1:00 p.m.) to discuss homecoming.  Students will report to class for attendance then report to the following areas: 12th grade – library, 11th grade – south end of gym, 10th grade – auditorium, 9th grade, north end of gym. 

 

Yoga classes begin Wednesday, October 2 in the auditorium.  Doors open at 3:30 p.m., practice starts at

3:41 p.m. and ends at 4:45 p.m. Punch cards from last year will be on site.  New cards are $20 for 5 classes or $5 a class and high school students are $3 a class or $10 for a punch card.

After-school tutoring starts this week!  There is a session for every core subject.  A teacher from each subject area will be supervising the tutoring sessions on the following days: Mondays – Social Studies, Tuesdays – English, Wednesdays – Science, and Thursdays – Math.   See your core teachers for a schedule.  This is a great opportunity to get some extra help in your classes or just get homework done.
