Jostens will deliver class rings on December 8.

 

FRESHMEN – we need ticket takers for the girls home basketball games.  We need four per game.  Sign up in

Mrs. McNalley’s room.  This is an easy way for our class to make money.  The first game is December 1.

 

Caberfae Peaks Community Red Cards are available for $1.00 each.  Red cards offer discounts on lift tickets and ski or board rentals.  If you would like to purchase a red card see Ms. Gilson before school, during your lunch break, or after school.

 

If you are involved in any of the following alternative sports:  paintball, snowboarding, mixed martial arts, equestrian, dirt biking, four-wheeling, skiing, hunting, fishing, or any other sport not mentioned, the yearbook class needs your pictures.  We are creating a page solely for you.  If you have pictures please get them to Mrs. Atkins – your pictures will be returned.

Congratulations to Mitch Thompson and Jordan Jackson!  Mitch has been named to the Associated Press Division 5-6 All-State Football Team – Offensive Lineman, and Jordan Jackson received Honorable Mention – Defensive Back.

 

The weight room will be open on Monday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning Monday, November 30.  All athletes not currently participating in winter sports are strongly encouraged to attend.

A pair of pink glasses were found in the lab last week.  See Miss Main if you think they are yours.

 

Thank you to all who contributed to the canned food drive for the Lighthouse Café.  A total of 730 items were collected and will be delivered today!  The 10th graders were by far the collection winners with 432 ½ items!  Second was the junior class with 142, the freshmen were third with 121, and the seniors trailed with a total of 35 items.  The sophomores will receive spirit points for their efforts!  Great job everyone and thank you!

 

There will be a short student council meeting today at lunch in room 11.  Get there quick and we will be done quick!

There is still a need for more non-perishable items for the food drive for the Lighthouse Café. We can take items through Monday. Please go home and find some that can be donated. Remember, the winning class will get spirit points toward the spirit trip. The following rooms are drop off points: 9th grade - Ms. Morse and Mrs. McNalley, 10th grade -

Today, November 20, is National Stand Up to Bullying Day. To stand up to bullying at LCHS we are having a Hats On Day. For $1 you will receive a No Bullying sticker and can wear a hat of your choice (appropriate) for the day. The money will go into our future Challenge Day fund. There will be a table set up in the lobby to get your sticker in the morning - if you aren't wearing a sticker, you can't wear a hat. That day at lunch we will also be selling the See it. Hear it. STOP IT! window decals for $2.00. They are available in several colors. They are great to display on car or home windows or mirrors. Again, funds go toward a future Challenge Day program and in support of the See it. Hear it. STOP IT! campaign.

Seniors – announcing the local Masonic Lodge Scholarships through the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation.  Each year the local Masons give two scholarships of at least $500 each.  One is the Beacon’s Scholarship and one is the Floyd Helsel Memorial Scholarship.  See Mrs. Richardson for an application.  It will entail writing a short essay and getting letters of recommendation.  They are due by November 20, 2009, to Mrs. Richardson.

The Lake City District Library will be holding an Astronomy Night tonight at 6:00 p.m.  There will be a guest speaker, a movie, and good eats.  Come join us and gaze at the night stars!

The Missaukee District Library is presenting an interactive mystery dinner, The Cracks in the Wall, for 6th through 12th grade students on Friday, November 13 from 6-8:00 p.m.  There will be prizes and refreshments – no ticket is needed.

 

MORNING CTC – because Thursday is a half-day of school, you will be released at 10:50 a.m. from CTC classes.

 

The student council will holding their annual canned food drive beginning today and running through November 20.  All food items will be donated to the Lighthouse Café. The class that brings in the most items will receive spirit points toward the end of the year spirit trip.  The following rooms are drop off points:  9th grade - Ms. Morse and Mrs. McNalley, 10th grade – Mrs. Atkins and Mrs. Peterson, 11th grade –  Ms. Bernier and Mrs. Phillips, and 12th grade – Mr. Fossitt and

Seniors – announcing the local Masonic Lodge Scholarships through the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation.  Each year the local Masons give two scholarships of at least $500 each.  One is the Beacon’s Scholarship and one is the Floyd Helsel Memorial Scholarship.  See Mrs. Richardson for an application.  It will entail writing a short essay and getting letters of recommendation.  They are due by November 20, 2009, to Mrs. Richardson.

Basketball cheer team try-outs are as follows: Monday, November 16 from 4-6:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17

from 4-5 p.m., and Wednesday, November 18 from 4-6:00 p.m.  Meet in the cafeteria and come ready to practice.  You must have a physical in order to try out – no physical, no try-out.

 

Boys basketball open gym – use the sign up sheet on Mr. Fossitt’s window to schedule gym time.  You may sign up in groups of four – for 45 minutes sessions.

The Hillsdale College representative has cancelled today’s visit. 

 

There will be a meeting for all 10th grade students in the auditorium tomorrow (Friday), during 7th hour.  Students are to report to class for attendance and then report directly to the auditorium.  There will be a presentation on CTC programs and discussion about CTC visits.
