GENERAL

Homecoming is next week!  If the date you plan to bring to the dance does not attend our high school you must sign them up in the office to be approved by the principal.

 

Attention All High School Students – You have class meetings today at the beginning of 5th hour.  Go right from lunch to your designated class meeting area.  Freshmen – gym/north, Sophomores – auditorium, Juniors gym/south, & Seniors/library.

 

Sophomores:  There will be an after school float committee meeting in Mrs. Phillips' room today.  Come with ideas for the float.  If you can't come, send ideas with friends who can.

 

Float meeting for Freshmen:  Today from 5-8pm and Sunday 12-5 pm at Megan Atkins house.  Please come to help build our very first float!!  Any questions please see Mrs. Peterson or Mrs. Atkins.  Also don’t forget to pay your $5 in class dues!!

 

The yearbook class is looking for summertime pictures.  The pictures can be on disk or already printed.  We will give the pictures back to you as soon as we have saved them to our site.  If you have any pictures that we could use, we would greatly appreciate it.  Please give them to Mrs. Atkins. 

 

NHSers:  We need 2 people to take tickets at the middle school volleyball game on Monday.  Please see Ms. Bernier ASAP if you can help.  Thanks.  You'd need to be at the middle school about 4:20.

 

Attention Freshmen – Last year’s middle school yearbooks are in.  If you ordered and paid for one you can pick it up in the high school lobby from Mrs. Vanderwal at lunch time today.  If you wish to purchase a middle school yearbook from last year, there are a few extra and you may do so for $11.

 

COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Sophomores and Juniors – The PSAT will be given here at school on the morning of Wednesday, October 15th.  This is a practice SAT test and also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship if you take it as a Junior.  The cost to take the test is $13.  This needs to be paid to the office by the day of the test.  Make checks payable to Lake City High School.  There is a sign-up sheet in the office and you need to sign up by October 1st.  See Mrs. Richardson if you have any questions. 

 

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awards more than 4000 scholarships each year.  Seniors – to apply for scholarships go to www.coca-colascholars.org by October 31st!

 

The AXA Achievement Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate Ambition and drive, Determination to set and reach goals, Respect for self, family and community, and Ability to succeed in college.  Seniors wishing to apply can go to www.axa-achievement.com.  Deadline is December 15, 2008.

 

Seniors – there is information on colleges, testing, and scholarships posted on the bulletin boards in the library hallway.  Be sure to check it out periodically.  Also, any scholarship information that comes through the guidance office will be posted on announcements for at least a week.  Be sure you listen to, read, or pull up the announcements on the website at least once per week.  Other scholarship and college info will be put in the information centers outside of Mrs. Richardson’s office later this week.  Be sure to check it out!

 

SPORTS

Freshman Volleyball practice for tonight has been cancelled.

 

ATTENTION ATHLETES – sports pictures are scheduled for Monday, September 22.  Football, cheer, and cross country athletes - be dressed and meet at the sports complex immediately after school.  Volleyball – meet in the gym.

 

Varsity Football – Away – Beal City – 7:00 – Bus departs 4:30

 

Saturday, 9/20

Varsity Volleyball – Away – Beal City – 9:00am – Bus departs 7:15am

 

JV Volleyball – Away – Kalkaska – 9:00am – Bus departs 7:45am

 

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Regarding Spirit Week – Hats will be allowed as long as the student has dressed up for the designated day.  Hats will not be allowed for students who are just choosing to wear a hat.

 

Next Tuesday is Bonnie & Clyde (Cops & Robbers) Day.  Please remember that nothing that resembles a weapon can be brought to the school or be part of your costume.
